18 FIFTEEN Apartments | Downtown Scotch Plains Housing
Maria Torres · Union County Life
Downtown Scotch Plains reached another milestone on October 6 with the opening of 18 FIFTEEN, a 42-unit apartment community at 1815 Front Street. The three-story building offers studio, one-, two-, and three-bedroom units, adding both market-rate and affordable housing to the township’s downtown core.
Mayor Josh Losardo, members of the Scotch Plains Council, Township Manager Margaret Heisey, and Director of Economic Development Tom Strowe joined developer Ted Schiller for the ribbon-cutting ceremony. Schiller, a lifelong Scotch Plains resident and founding attorney of Schiller, Pittenger & Galvin P.C., stewarded the project through its planning and development phases.
Nine of the 42 units are designated as affordable housing, fulfilling a portion of Scotch Plains’ state-mandated affordable housing obligations. The project positions residents within walking distance of downtown restaurants, shops, and services, reinforcing the township’s strategy to build mixed-use neighborhoods.
18 FIFTEEN follows Scotch Plains Crossing, a 40-unit mixed-use development that opened at 1776 East Second Street earlier this year. Together, these projects represent coordinated investment in downtown housing and the broader revitalization of Scotch Plains’ commercial district.
