Gov. Livingston-New Providence Hockey Delivers Pizzas to Little Flower Food Pantry
Maria Torres · Union County Life
According to TAPinto's report.
Gov. Livingston-New Providence Highlanders hockey players delivered 91 frozen pizzas to the Church of the Little Flower Food Pantry on Saturday, Oct. 17. Union County Life reports that the donation came from a fundraiser that ran about two and a half weeks, which the team reworked this year so its support would go straight to families in need.
Junior forward Gavin Moskowitz, senior defenseman Griffin Ulrich and junior defenseman Liam Gowan took part in the delivery. Walter Forrester, a pantry representative, and Rev. JC Merino received the donation. The pizzas came from The Vintage Tavern in Gillette.
Adam Moskowitz, a hockey parent, organized the fundraiser. For several years, families bought frozen pizzas from The Vintage Tavern to take home. Last year, families bought 144. This year he asked the tavern whether families could buy pizzas to donate instead, and the tavern agreed. Moskowitz said, “The program gets a little bit of money, the same money we would have done. And now the food bank has pizzas.”
The pantry serves more than a dozen individuals and families with supplemental food needs. It is open Saturdays from 9 to 11 a.m. at the back doors of the church, and it also offers appointments. Families choose from a list of nonperishable items printed in English and Spanish. Every other week, they can also select hygiene products and coffee. The pantry holds special distributions for Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter.
Thanksgiving and Christmas are coming, and the article notes that food prices are high, which makes this a busy season for the pantry.
The hockey team is also exploring a partnership with the American Cancer Society and plans a cancer awareness game this season. No date has been set.
