He served as Supervisor of Special Education and is now Director of Special Education for Linden Public Schools. He has also served as a Linden City Councilman and a Commissioner on the Union County Board of Taxation, and he is chairman of the Union County Improvement Authority.

Asked what he would implement in the district, Kolibas said he would strengthen opportunities for every student to feel connected, supported and successful. He cited academics, extracurricular activities, athletics, the arts, career exploration and support for students with different needs. He said success should not have a one size fits all definition.
Kolibas said board decisions should rest on facts, data, educational needs and fiscal responsibility. He said planning, collaboration, transparency and a willingness to ask difficult questions are essential when addressing the challenges facing public education.
