According to TAPinto's report.

Cranford remained undefeated with a 14-0 football victory over South Plainfield on Friday night, with the Tigers’ defense proving the difference in a game dominated by South Plainfield’s ball-control offense.

South Plainfield controlled the clock for much of the game, using seven different runners against Cranford’s defense. The Tigers opened with a long drive from their own 28-yard line to the Cranford 6-yard line before Cranford made a crucial stop on fourth down.

Cranford responded with a 92-yard drive in 12 plays. Senior quarterback Aidan Capizzi threw a 29-yard touchdown pass to Jake Friedman with 37 seconds remaining in the first quarter. The drive featured a 44-yard pass over the middle to Nick Kiriakatis to the South Plainfield 33-yard line, and Capizzi converted on fourth-and-15 with the touchdown throw. Joell Quintana kicked the extra point for a 7-0 lead.

South Plainfield mounted a long drive in the second quarter spanning 12 plays from the 8:55 mark until the 41-second mark. The Tigers reached the Cranford 13-yard line before consecutive holding penalties put them in a first-and-30 situation. South Plainfield advanced as close as the Cranford 10-yard line but turned the ball over on downs without scoring.

Cranford needed little time to extend its lead in the second half. The team drove 73 yards in 5 plays on its opening third-quarter possession. On the fourth play, Capizzi threw a 40-yard pass to Luke Owens on a waggle play to the South Plainfield 12-yard line. Junior halfback Logan Murray scored on a 12-yard touchdown run just 2:07 into the third quarter. Quintana added the extra point for a 14-0 lead.

Murray rushed for 78 yards overall, with 69 coming in the second half. He carried the ball on 11 of Cranford’s last 13 offensive plays.

South Plainfield kept possession for 10 plays after the touchdown but managed only short gains. The Tigers had only one play longer than 13 yards for the entire night. Despite getting inside the Cranford 12-yard line three times, South Plainfield could not convert any scoring opportunities.

Cranford head coach Erik Rosenmeier credited South Plainfield’s strategy. “South Plainfield did a good job, that was their plan. They were gonna keep our offense off the field,” Rosenmeier said. He attributed Cranford’s success to defense. “But our defense hung in there and bent but didn’t break, and I think that was the difference in the game.”

Rosenmeier explained the offensive approach. “South Plainfield was loading up the box, and we knew that we were gonna have to throw it, and we have confidence in Aidan and in our guys on the outside to get open,” he said.

Capizzi completed 7 of 10 passes for 147 yards with no interceptions. Cranford totaled 231 yards on 35 snaps. Cranford’s defense has allowed only 13 points in regulation over its last four games, with two of those contests shutouts.

South Plainfield totaled 143 yards on 42 snaps. The Tigers rushed for 116 yards on 32 attempts. Sophomore David Dellipoali led South Plainfield’s running attack with 54 yards on 12 carries.

South Plainfield is 4-3 on the season. The Tigers face Gov. Livingston in a Saturday afternoon game on October 17.
