fanwood fall leaf pickup schedule and curbside rules, 2026
Maria Torres · Union County Life
Fanwood residents can start putting leaves out this week. Union County Life reports that the Department of Public Works has released a tentative fall leaf pickup schedule, with pickups beginning the week of Oct. 19 in all four quadrants.
The department asks residents to place loose leaves at the curb in neat windrows about one foot from the curb. Piles should sit at least 10 feet from a drainage inlet so water keeps flowing, and vehicles should be parked at least 20 feet from leaf piles so crews have room to work.
Brush and branches are not allowed in leaf piles. Piles that contain them will not be picked up and will be left behind, because brush must meet disposal requirements at the Union County Conservation Center.
The schedule for the northeast and northwest quadrants runs the weeks of Oct. 19, Oct. 26, Nov. 9, Nov. 23 and Dec. 7. The southeast and southwest quadrants run the weeks of Oct. 19, Nov. 2, Nov. 16, Nov. 30 and Dec. 7. The department says the dates are tentative and may change with the weather and the amount of leaves available. It may also add pickups in school drop off areas or elsewhere when borough events need full road access.
Residents are responsible for telling their landscapers about the leaf pickup rules. Questions can go to Borough Hall at 75 North Martine Ave., or by calling 908.322.8236.
