Rahway High School Students Paint UCPAC Windows for Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Maria Torres · Union County Life

According to Rahway Public Schools' post.

Students from the multiply disabled program at Rahway High School took part in a Breast Cancer Awareness Month project this week, traveling downtown to paint the historic Union County Performing Arts Center’s windows with breast cancer awareness imagery and themes.

The project brought together students, teachers, and community leaders. Ms. Jacqueline Abend, a teacher at Rahway High School, described the experience. “We had a great time yesterday painting the windows at UCPAC for Breast Cancer Awareness. It was a great opportunity to be in the community and apply our art skills,” Abend said. Art teacher Alexis Orfan also participated in the project.

Mayor Raymond Giacobbe visited the students at UCPAC to observe the project. The mayor expressed his support for the initiative and admired the students’ artwork, highlighting the value of school-community partnerships during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The window painting serves dual purposes: raising awareness for breast cancer while providing students with the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to their community through their artistic talents. The painted windows are now visible to residents and visitors at the downtown arts center.
