Refill Your Cup: Free Monthly Support Group for Parents and Guardians of Loved Ones with Disabilities
Maria Torres · Union County Life
Union County Life is reporting that the Township of Scotch Plains has announced Refill Your Cup, a free monthly support group for parents and guardians of loved ones with disabilities. The group offers support, connection, and self care for caregivers.
The township says that raising and caring for a loved one with special needs can be challenging and can feel isolating. Parents and guardians can meet others, share their lived experiences, and support their own mental wellness. The group is free and open to the community at large.
Lisa Afflitto, LCSW, leads the group. The township describes her as a licensed clinical social worker, a New Jersey certified special education teacher, and the owner of Integrative Therapy Solutions, LLC. Her clinical focus is supporting adults aged 18 and older and families navigating life as an individual with a disability or as a caregiver. The notice says she has a passion for facilitating support groups and bringing caregivers together in a supportive space.
The group meets on Wednesdays from 7:30 to 8:45 p.m. The next session is Wednesday, Nov. 11, and the final 2026 session is Dec. 16. Scheduled 2027 dates are Jan. 20, Feb. 10, March 10, April 14, May 19, and June 9.
Preregistration is required. Residents can register through a link to the JCC of Central New Jersey’s online activity page. The JCC is at 1391 Martine Avenue in Scotch Plains, and its phone number is 908-889-8800. Questions about registration go to the contact listed in the township’s notice.
The JCC says it is committed to accessibility and inclusion. Requests for accommodations should be made to Beth Mitchell at least two weeks before an event.
