Roselle Park’s seasonal Lawn Bag Distribution Program is back, starting Thursday, Oct. 15. Union County Life reports that the borough is distributing biodegradable paper bags to help residents collect leaves.

Residents can pick up bags at the Roselle Park Municipal Complex, 110 E. Westfield Ave., Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Distribution is first come, first served while supplies last.

The curb rules are simple. Place leaves in the biodegradable bags at the curb no earlier than 7 p.m. the evening before your scheduled pickup day. Loose leaves cannot go on the curb or sidewalk. Bags may hold leaves only, and plastic bags are prohibited. Residents can find their scheduled pickup day on the borough’s website.

The program began in 2021 and is funded entirely by recycling grants the borough receives. The borough says it aims for cleaner streets, clearer storm drains, sustainable disposal of yard waste, and compliance with its waste disposal requirements.

Mayor Joseph Signorello Jr. said in a news release that “the accessibility of leaf bags encourages residents to help clean up the community.” He said that by properly disposing of yard waste, residents are helping build a greener borough.
