Scotch Plains Completes 2026 Paving Season with 17 Streets and 1 Bridge
Maria Torres · Union County Life
According to TAPinto's report.
Scotch Plains Township has completed its 2026 road resurfacing program, paving 17 streets and 1 bridge across the township. The work included Marlboro Road, Beryllium Road, portions of Farley Avenue, Rivervale Court, Jacobs Lane, Judy Lane, Rolling Knolls, Hidden Hollow, Homestead Terrace, Edgewood Terrace, Stocker Lane, Mohawk Lane, Pearl Place, Rhoda Place, Sims Avenue, Archer Lane, and Fawn Ridge Road. The Hetfield Avenue Bridge was also resurfaced.
The completion of Fawn Ridge Road’s resurfacing marked a significant moment for resident Jon Joshua, who had conducted a years-long advocacy campaign for his street’s repair. Joshua posted repeatedly on the township’s social media pages with the phrase “Pave my street” over several years, hoping to draw attention to road conditions.
Joshua estimated that Fawn Ridge Road had not been fully repaved in 20 years. He said half of the road had been in disrepair. “I think it’s been two years since the street got really bad to the point where I had to drive down the wrong side in some parts. It hadn’t been repaved for 20 years,” he said.
When the street was finally resurfaced as part of the 2026 program, Joshua expressed both relief and a touch of skepticism on TAPinto. “After years of neglect and not being on the calendar, my street was somehow repaved,” he posted. He also noted: “The town council, however, wasted no time holding a photo opp and bragging about it on their Facebook page.”
Mayor Josh Losardo thanked residents for their patience with the township’s resurfacing efforts. He credited the Scotch Plains Department of Public Works and the Scotch Plains Engineering Department for their work during the roadwork.
“We know residents care deeply about the condition of the roads in their neighborhoods, and frankly, so do we,” Losardo said. “There will always be more roads to pave, but we made substantial progress this year.”
Township officials evaluate road conditions based on pavement condition and other infrastructure factors. Projects are timed around utility work when possible to avoid paving a road only to have workers dig it up for utility repairs.
Losardo stated that Scotch Plains resurfaces roads annually. With the 2026 season now complete, the Township will continue to assess infrastructure needs ahead of future resurfacing projects.
