Scotch Plains Leaf Pickup Schedule and Rules
Maria Torres · Union County Life
Union County Life is reporting that leaf pickup in Scotch Plains begins on or about Monday, Oct. 26, 2026, according to a Township of Scotch Plains announcement published Oct. 19. Only leaves will be collected. Branches and grass will not be picked up, and any pile that contains them will be left behind.
Residents may put out their leaves up to 10 days before their scheduled pickup date. Only biodegradable paper bags will be accepted. Residents should not bag leaves in plastic.
Loose leaves should be placed curbside in neat windrows about one foot from the curb. Leaf piles must be at least 10 feet from drainage inlets so water can drain properly. Residents should not park vehicles within 20 feet of leaf piles, which leaves room for pickup crews. Piles should also be free of branches, rocks, stumps, and similar materials, which can damage equipment.
Weather permitting, sweepers will operate after the last collection cycle in December. The last day residents should put leaves out for collection is Dec. 15.
From Oct. 30 through Dec. 31, residents may drop leaves off at the Department of Public Works yard on Plainfield Avenue between 7:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.
