According to TAPinto's report.
Jonathan Dayton High School in Springfield saw growth in Advanced Placement participation, exam activity, and scholar recognition during the 2025 to 2026 school year, according to district officials. Union County Life is sharing the figures from the district’s presentation, which TAPinto Springfield also reported.
Principal Dr. Norman Francis reported that 217 students took AP courses in 2026, up from 181 students in 2022. The number of AP exams the school administered rose from 362 to 473 over the same period.
More students are also earning qualifying scores. In 2026, 154 students earned scores of 3 or higher on AP exams, up from 115 in 2022. That means 71 percent of AP students earned scores that qualify for potential college credit or advanced standing.
The number of students recognized for AP achievement also grew. A total of 91 students earned AP Scholar honors in 2026. That includes 44 AP Scholars, 18 AP Scholars with Honor and 29 AP Scholars with Distinction. In 2022, 39 students earned recognition, so the total more than doubled.
District officials credited the growth in part to the expansion of AP course offerings. They also pointed to increased student access through the high school’s scheduling model.
Superintendent Dr. Rachel Goldberg praised the teachers during the presentation. “We’re hugely grateful for the teachers that have worked so hard to build our students’ capacity,” she said.
