Springfield Plans Tennis Court Project, Road Improvements and Fall Tree Planting
Maria Torres · Union County Life
Springfield Township is moving forward with multiple infrastructure and capital projects this fall, announced Township Administrator John Bussiculo. The initiatives span recreation, road improvements, and environmental initiatives.
The most significant project involves tennis court improvements. Bids have been received, and the project is expected to be awarded in October once grant funding becomes available. The tennis court work will enhance recreational facilities for Springfield residents.
Road improvements are a major focus. New Jersey American Water will mill and pave sections of Colfax Road that were impacted by recent utility work. "They ruined a lot of that road. It was under moratorium. We're gonna do some curb work there," Bussiculo said. Springfield will handle separate road improvements on Henshaw Avenue.
Additional roadway projects include paving of Hilltop Road, sidewalk and handicap ramp work on Linden and Wabeno avenues, and Fieldstone work scheduled for early October. Bussiculo noted that crosswalk striping efforts are continuing in coordination with Union County.
The township will also plant 50 additional trees under a Union County grant program. This effort brings Springfield's total tree planting for the year to approximately 100 trees—a significant environmental investment for the community.
For Springfield residents, these projects represent ongoing municipal investment in infrastructure, accessibility, and community quality of life. Residents can expect to see road work, utility coordination, and green space improvements throughout the fall season.
