Summit Council Ordinances and Resolutions, Oct. 20, 2026

Maria Torres · Union County Life

Union County Life is reporting that the Summit Common Council passed four ordinances and several resolutions at its Oct. 20, 2026 meeting. The city has posted highlights, and the full meeting is available on the city’s YouTube channel.

Council held hearings on four ordinances, and all four passed. The changes include an adjustment to the parking ordinance that eases restrictions on Beekman Road while allowing efficient school drop-off and pickup. Another amends the organizational structure of the Department of Community Services. A third amends Department of Community Programs policies, including setting operating hours of 8 a.m. to dusk at Mabie Playground.

A separate ordinance was introduced to propose changes to the city’s drone ordinance. Introduction means the measure has not yet been finally adopted.

Council also passed several resolutions. They approved the city’s 2026 Municipal Best Practices Inventory and authorized the purchase of a street sweeper and a garbage truck. They designated a Public Works Manager and a Stormwater Coordinator, and they confirmed an appointment by Mayor Fagan to the Community Programs Advisory Board.

Council received an Affordable Housing update on the Our House site. Police Chief Ryan Peters and Fire Chief Brian Harnois presented quarterly statistics and department reports. Will Matsumoto, a Summit High School senior, presented on the Votey family’s five generations of civic and volunteer engagement.
