Clark Emergency Squad Members Wagner and Newby Named Hometown Heroes
Robert Hargrove · Union County Life
According to TAPinto's announcement on October 15, 2026.
According to Congressman Tom Kean Jr.'s office.
Two longtime members of the Clark Volunteer Emergency Squad have been recognized for decades of service to their town.
Gary Wagner and David Newby, both Life Honorary Members of the squad in Clark, were among 30 first responders honored this month at the third annual Hometown Heroes event. The event recognized police, fire and EMS members from New Jersey's 7th Congressional District.
Congressman Tom Kean Jr. hosted the event. His office invited police, fire and EMS departments across the district to send in nominations to "spotlight exemplary individuals."
Wagner joined the squad in 1974 and has served Clark for over 50 years. He has held several line officer and delegate positions. He often represents the squad at community events, parades and memorial services, and he was part of its response and support efforts after Sept. 11.
Newby has been a member of the squad for more than 20 years. He started as a driver, supporting his son, who was a squad member. He later earned his EMT certification.
As treasurer and a member of the squad's executive board, Newby has managed its finances and secured outside funding. The squad gave him its "Pillar of Service" honor for his dedication and contributions.
The congressman's office did not give the date or location of the event, and it did not say who nominated the two men. Residents with questions about the squad can call the Township of Clark at 732-388-3600.
