Union County invites residents to a free Diwali celebration on Saturday, November 14, 2026, at 2 p.m. at Hamilton Stage, 360 Hamilton Street in Rahway, according to a county press release published October 27. Union County Life is sharing the details for Rahway and Union County residents.
Known as the Festival of Lights, Diwali celebrates the triumph of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance. The county says the afternoon welcomes people who observe the holiday and those who want to learn more about it. No prior knowledge of Diwali is needed to take part.
The program includes a Diya ceremony, dance performances, crafts, and refreshments. Diyas are traditional lamps associated with Diwali that symbolize the triumph of light over darkness.
Union County Commissioner Chairman Joseph C. Bodek said, “Union County is home to a rich mix of cultures and traditions, and sharing those traditions helps bring our communities closer together.” Commissioner Kimberly Palmieri-Mouded, a member of the event’s planning committee, said, “Diwali reminds us that even a single light can brighten the darkness, and that together, we can bring that same warmth and hope to our community.”
The county’s Diwali celebration began during the COVID-19 pandemic and has since been held at the Historic Union County Courthouse Rotunda, Trailside, and Hamilton Stage. Admission is free. Registration is available at www.ucnj.org/diwali.
