Flag Football for 3rd-8th Graders this Fall
Maria Torres · Union County Life
Third through eighth graders in Springfield have a chance to learn flag football fundamentals this fall, as the Springfield Recreation Department and Springfield Jr. Dawgs Football open registration for the 2026 season.
The program runs Mondays from September 7 through October 26, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., at Springfield Pool Field, located at 44 Morrison Road. The program welcomes co-ed players who live in or attend school in Springfield, and the cost is 150 dollars per child. Each participant receives a jersey to keep and loaned equipment for practices and games.
Union County Life is highlighting this community opportunity for young athletes. The Springfield Recreation Department and the Jr. Dawgs have designed the program to teach football basics through weekly practices and games, giving kids a chance to learn the sport and build friendships with neighbors their own age.
Registration is open online through TeamSnap at https://registration.teamsnap.com/form/53271, with a deadline of Saturday, August 15, 2026. Families should register soon to secure a spot.
The program also needs volunteer coaches. Coaches must pass a criminal background check and attend a one-time clinic sponsored by the Rutgers Youth Sports Research Council, as required by Township Ordinance. If you are interested in helping young athletes develop their skills, the program is looking for community members to step into coaching roles.
