Hydrant Flushing in Elizabeth Through Aug. 7

Hydrant flushing is currently underway in Elizabeth and will continue Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through Friday, August 7. The city's Department of Public Works is conducting the maintenance as part of routine water system upkeep.

During the flushing period, residents and businesses may experience temporary water discoloration or reduced water pressure. These conditions are normal and temporary. They do not indicate a problem with the water supply itself.

The flushing process removes sediment that accumulates in water mains over time. This maintenance improves water quality, maintains proper water flow throughout the system, and ensures that fire hydrants operate effectively for fire protection and emergency response.

If your water appears discolored, run your cold water for several minutes until it clears before using it for drinking, cooking, or laundry. Union County Life recommends calling the Elizabeth Department of Public Works if discoloration persists beyond a few minutes or if you have other concerns about your water service.
