Tai Chi Classes Continue Thursday Evenings at Westfield Memorial Library
Patricia Chen · Union County Life
Westfield Memorial Library continues its weekly Tai Chi series Thursday evenings through September 24. Classes run from 7 to 8 p.m. and are taught by Gang Huang, an authorized instructor of the Yang Family Tai Chi Association.
Union County Life is covering this community wellness program as part of our ongoing coverage of educational and recreational opportunities across all 21 Union County municipalities.
Gang Huang brings deep expertise to the practice. He is a formal disciple of Master Yang Jun, the sixth-generation direct descendant of Yang Cheng Fu and Yang Lu Chan, the creator of Yang Style Tai Chi. Huang currently teaches Tai Chi classes in Bridgewater as well, making him a respected instructor in the region.
The series builds progressively, with each class introducing new skills. Because the sequence matters, students should register for individual classes to ensure they can attend consistently. Tai Chi is an ancient practice that originated in China and has been studied extensively by modern researchers.
Research has linked Tai Chi to a range of health benefits, including improved balance and fall prevention, relief of depression, and support for people managing Parkinson's disease and dementia. Studies have also shown it can reverse disease progression in osteoarthritis. These findings have made Tai Chi increasingly popular for older adults and people managing chronic conditions.
Classes meet at Westfield Memorial Library, 550 E. Broad Street, Westfield. Individual registration is required.
