Springfield NJ Water Main Replacement Colfax Road

About 2,900 feet of water pipe dating to the 1920s runs beneath Colfax Road, Denham Road, and Donna Road in Springfield. New Jersey American Water is replacing all of it in a $1.6 million project.

The project began the week of September 2, 2026, along Colfax Road, from Short Hills Avenue to Denham Road, as well as along Denham Road, from Morrison Road to the dead end, and along Donna Road, from Denham Road to the dead end. Work is scheduled to continue through the end of October, weather permitting.

Crews will swap out the aging pipe for an 8 inch ductile iron main. The project also includes renewing 74 utility owned service lines and replacing three fire hydrants.

Work hours are 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. Weekend and evening work is not anticipated unless needed to keep the project on schedule. Streets where construction is active may be temporarily closed during working hours, with traffic control coordinated with Springfield officials. Residents will be able to reach their homes and driveways throughout the project.

Crews will clean work areas daily and install temporary restoration where digging is required. Permanent road restoration is expected after the ground settles.

Some households may experience brief water interruptions or discolored water when the new main and service lines are connected. New Jersey American Water will give customers 24 hours notice before service line work begins at their address. Most interruptions should last 30 to 60 minutes.
