Tour de Westfield Fifth Anniversary Bike Parade

Hundreds of Westfield residents gathered on Sunday, August 30, 2026, in the south lot of the train station for the fifth rendition of the Tour De Westfield, a three mile bike parade around the south side of town for riders of all ages.

Recreation Leader Mathew Buchek, who organized the 2026 event, reported that the recreation department received 682 registrations online, a record for the department. "Each year it gets a little bit bigger, which is awesome," he said.

The event featured bike repair, bike decoration, a bike obstacle course, cornhole, and other activities designed to bring bikers of all ages together. Riders received a towel featuring a patriotic version of the event logo, paying tribute to the country's 250th anniversary.

The event started at 10 a.m. from under the dual start/finish line, with support from Westfield Fire and Police Departments and the rescue squad.

Buchek emphasized the event's purpose: to promote bike safety for town residents. "Timeliness is everything," he said. "Schools open up this week in Westfield and kids being able to ride safely with their family, this is a good practice run for them riding their bikes to school, which is such a huge thing in Westfield. So it's awesome to be able to offer this kind of free event for Westfield residents and give them an experience they won't forget."

Volunteer Michael Moscone, a longtime Westfield resident of 14 years who recently retired, assisted with the event. "I have been wanting to ride my bike for about three months. I enjoy coming out and helping the community," he said.

Participants included Rachel Carr, who attended with her husband Brian Lippai, son Sawyer Carr, and daughter Layton Carr. "My son learned how to ride his bike last year, and he saw everyone ride by the house, and we figured it out, and he wanted to ride this year," Carr said.

Another participant was Teriann Nohilly, who came with her husband Michael Wendolowski and sons Ronan and Shane Wendolowski. The family had recently moved from San Diego, California to Westfield, with the event occurring on their third day in town. "We thought it would be kind of a nice way to get a lay of the land and see something in the community," Nohilly said.
