The Summit Playhouse is presenting "By the Water," a play by Sharyn Rothstein, through Sunday, Nov. 1, at its theater on New England Avenue in Summit. Union County Life gathered the details from the Playhouse website and its production listing.
Karen Thornton directs, with Sam Nissen and Pam Heller as producers. The Playhouse calls itself one of the oldest continuously operating community theaters in the United States. It was founded in 1918 as a World War I relief organization.
In the Playhouse's description, the Murphy family struggles to rebuild their Staten Island home and their lives after the storm. Old wounds resurface, loyalties are tested, and each family member must decide what to fight for and what to leave behind.
David Romankow plays Marty Murphy and Gloria Lamoureux plays Mary Murphy, with Gabriel Aprea and Justin Montanaro as their sons, Sal and Brian. Charles Grayson and Sharon Garry play Philip and Andrea Carter, and Marie Correa plays Emily Mancini.
The show runs 90 minutes with no intermission. Evening shows start at 7:30 p.m. and matinees at 2 p.m. Tickets are $25 for adults and $20 for seniors 65 and older and students with ID. Sales are final, but tickets can be exchanged up to four hours before a show.
The Playhouse has no parking lot. Theatergoers can use the Christ Church lot at 561 Springfield Avenue, one block away, or park on nearby streets. The lobby, auditorium, lounge and lobby restroom are wheelchair accessible, and there is an elevator.
The Playhouse home page does not say how many seats remain for each show. Questions can go to the box office at summitplayhouseboxoffice@gmail.com or (908) 273-2192. Wheelchair seating should be requested from the box office.
Six performances remain, ending with the Sunday matinee on Nov. 1. Find more Summit events, businesses, and local news on Union County Life.
