Clark Volunteer Emergency Squad Gets New Braun Ambulance, Upgrades Facility
Maria Torres · Union County Life
The Clark Volunteer Emergency Squad recently received a new 2026 Braun ambulance, marking a significant upgrade to emergency services in Clark Township. Mayor Angel Albanese and the Clark Township Municipal Council were instrumental in securing the vehicle, which represents the organization’s ongoing commitment to community safety.
CVES now operates three ambulances to serve Clark and neighboring communities. The new Braun ambulance offers substantial advantages over previous equipment. It is longer and taller than earlier rigs, providing additional interior space that allows EMTs to better treat patients during transport. The extra room also makes it easier for emergency personnel to carry and manage necessary medical equipment.
The ambulance’s larger size required facility modifications. The bay doors of CVES’s squad house needed to be enlarged to accommodate the new vehicle. President Michael Gennaro noted the foresight of the building’s original designers. “The members who built this building were visionaries,” Gennaro said. “They prepared for larger ambulances. These doors were suitable for nearly sixty years.”
When CVES’s squad house opened in 1968, the organization operated two Cadillac ambulances. The bay doors seemed spacious for the ambulances of that era. In 1979, CVES acquired its first modular ambulance, which still fit through the existing doors. The new 2026 Braun ambulance, however, required a different approach.
Gennaro investigated several companies capable of modifying the squad house doors. After membership approval, construction was completed to accommodate the larger vehicle.
With three ambulances in operation, CVES is better positioned to maintain continuous emergency response capability. If one vehicle undergoes maintenance or repair, two fully operational rigs remain available to serve the community. The Clark Volunteer Emergency Squad has been serving Clark Township for 85 years as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
