Union County Life is reporting that a rabid raccoon was captured near Ridgeview Avenue in New Providence. The borough announced the discovery in a rabies advisory on Friday, Oct. 16, 2026.
The Westfield Regional Health Department has issued safety guidance for residents. Parents should tell children not to handle stray or unfamiliar animals, including feral cats and wildlife.
