Roselle Celebrates 4th Annual Doggy Day Pawrade & Family Fun
Maria Torres · Union County Life
Roselle residents gathered on Saturday, October 3, for the 4th Annual Doggy Day Pawrade & Family Fun Day at Roselle Borough Hall. The event was hosted by Mayor Donald Shaw, Borough Council, the Department of Recreation, and G-Wiz Auto Entertainment.
The celebration featured various attractions for dogs and families, including a doggy watering station, photo booths, a puppy play pen with an umbrella for shade, face painting, and a faux grass carpet runway lined with orange and red flowers. The pawrade showcased dogs of all sizes in friendly competition.
The competition began with contests for small dogs, medium dogs, and large dogs. Each owner walked their dog across the runway, and judges selected winners in each category, awarding colorful ribbons to the winners.
Roselle residents Alexander Gonzales and Giovanni Luna attended for the first time after seeing a poster at a local dog park. They entered their Weiner dogs, Lizzie and Woody, into the small dog contest and tied for first place. "It feels very good to receive first place," Luna said. "We were lucky because someone else also had a Weiner dog." Gonzales added, "We showed up a little extra late and still pulled through on the win. They like it, they're pretty confident dogs."
Roselle resident Kyle Monroe entered his dog, Saber, into the large dog contest. Saber had secured second place two years ago but won first place this year. "I'm very excited for her, it's like she wanted to come out here, so we took a walk, and she was all excited today," Monroe explained. "I know she's happy, so a special treat for her tonight."
Roselle resident Cecilia Charles brought her family and their Golden Retriever, Bella, to the event. "It's very cute, they have tons of dogs, people coming out, the little contest and modeling station," Charles said. "It's enjoyable."
Residents expressed appreciation for the borough's community programming. Monroe said, "I would like to see more events. They're needed for the community. We're a small borough, so I think if everybody could come together and know that these things are happening, it makes it better for everybody."
Charles added, "It gives us something to do and get out of the house, which I think is good for the community to get everybody together and see familiar faces."
The Doggy Day Pawrade demonstrates Roselle's commitment to creating family-friendly activities that bring residents together to celebrate their pets and their community.
