Pilot Program for Union County's On-Demand Shared-Ride Service Launches in Westfield

Union County launched RideUC, its new on-demand shared ride service, in Westfield on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, according to a TAPinto report published October 30. Union County Life is sharing the details for Westfield residents who want to know how to book a ride.

The one-year pilot is offered in partnership with transportation provider Via. It is designed to help people reach the train station, downtown businesses, shopping, and other local destinations without relying on a car.

RideUC runs weekdays from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Rides are free through November 20, and cost $3 per trip after that. Riders can book on the app, which is now available on Android. The iOS app is coming soon. Until then, iPhone users can book by calling 908-304-9138.

Westfield Mayor Jeremy Berman said the city is “excited to be the first municipality to introduce this service.” He said the train station has an active commuter population and parking lots that often fill to capacity. “Providing residents with an affordable, convenient way to get to and from the station without driving can help ease demand for parking and reduce the number of cars on the road,” he said. Berman added that trips downtown, to appointments, and for errands could also be served.

Union County Board of County Commissioners Chairman Joseph Bodek said the launch “marks an important milestone in an effort that has taken planning, coordination and a shared commitment to improving transportation in Union County.” Commissioner Kimberly Palmieri-Mouded, joined at the podium by Commissioners Rebecca Williams and Lourdes Leon, said the pilot “gives us an opportunity to hear from the residents and learn from their experiences how this service can best meet our community’s needs.”
