Westfield Offers Free Child Vaccinations by Appointment
Robert Hargrove · Union County Life
According to the Westfield Regional Health Department's announcement.
Families in 13 local towns can get free shots for their children through a program run out of Westfield. Every visit is by appointment only.
The Child Vaccination Program offers free immunizations to children ages 0 through 18 who are uninsured or have NJ FamilyCare Plan A. Children must live in Chatham Borough, Cranford, Fanwood, Garwood, Kenilworth, Madison, Mountainside, New Providence, Roselle Park, Springfield, Summit, Union or Westfield.
The Westfield Regional Health Department runs the program. To start, a parent fills out the online Child Health Clinic Questionnaire. Once the department reviews it, a nurse contacts the family directly to set up the visit.
The questionnaire lists the vaccines families can ask about, including DTaP, hepatitis A and B, Hib, HPV, MMR, meningococcal, pneumococcal, polio, rotavirus, RSV, Tdap and varicella. Flu shots are offered in season, and COVID shots depend on supply. The form also lists underinsured children, meaning their insurance does not cover some or all recommended vaccines.
Before the visit, families are asked to email the child's immunization record and the registration forms posted with the questionnaire. If English is not your first language, bring an adult interpreter over 18. Missing an appointment without cancelling may cost a family its clinic privileges.
The department has not posted clinic days, times or a location, and no phone number is listed. For questions, email the Health Department nurses. The flyer is also available in Spanish.
