Maria Torres · Union County Life
According to the JCC of Central New Jersey's announcement.
Broadway and Hollywood music comes to a local stage on Thursday, Nov. 12, when composer and lyricist Marc Shaiman visits for an evening of stories and live music.
The event starts at 7:30 p.m. at the JCC of Central New Jersey, 1391 Martine Avenue in Scotch Plains.
The JCC calls Shaiman a "legendary composer, lyricist, and music producer." It points to his work on Hairspray, Sister Act, Smash and South Park and says he has shaped the sound of Broadway and Hollywood for decades.
The evening celebrates his memoir, Never Mind the Happy: Showbiz Stories from a Sore Winner, which the JCC describes as a New York Times best seller. Guests can expect "candid conversation, surprising stories, and live music," according to the JCC.
The program is part of the Irving and Anne Nevard Sherr Annual Arts & Culture Series, The Stories That Connect Us. The JCC describes the series as a chance to share and celebrate traditions that connect people.
Tickets cost $24, with a member price of $19.20. Registration is required by Nov. 5 through the JCC event page for the Marc Shaiman evening.
