Rahway Firefighters Teach Fire Safety at Franklin Elementary

Prekindergarten and kindergarten students at Franklin Elementary School in Rahway received a lesson in fire safety from the Rahway Fire Department.
The school said the visit was part of its commitment to teaching basic life skills to its youngest learners.
Firefighters taught students the essential steps of calling 911 and stressed why knowing their home address helps responders reach them quickly.
The session also covered the Stop, Drop and Roll technique.
To help ease fear in an emergency, one firefighter put on a full set of turnout gear so students could see, hear and even touch the equipment.
The demonstration was designed to help children recognize firefighters as helpers, even when they wear masks and protective clothing during a rescue.
"The Franklin School community thanks most sincerely the members of the Rahway Fire Department for the visit," the school said.
