Clues, secrets and surprises will fill the Rahway library on a Saturday night this month.
The Friends of the Rahway Public Library will host Night at the Library, a scavenger hunt, on Saturday, Oct. 24, from 7 to 10:30 p.m. at the Rahway Public Library in Rahway. Union County Life confirmed the details from the group's event listing and the library's website.
The Friends describe the event as an evening of mystery, adventure and literary magic, with the library turned into a night of clues, secrets and surprises. The group is a volunteer 501(c)(3) nonprofit that was established in 2010.
Scavenger hunts are one of the ways the Friends raise money. The group's page lists book sales, fundraising dinners, scavenger hunts and dodgeball events among the fundraisers it has held.
The Friends say the money they raise supports children's activities, educational programs, extra books for lending and items not covered in the library's ordinary budget.
The library is at 2 City Hall Plaza. Its website says regular library hours end early, at 3 p.m., on Saturday, Oct. 24. The ticketed hunt starts at 7 p.m. that evening.
Tickets are $40 and include event access, hors d'oeuvres, drinks, mocktails and music from a live DJ. The hunt is for adults 18 and older, and guests are encouraged to dress as book characters. Tickets are sold at the library's reference desk or online through the Friends' PayPal ticket page, which the QR code on their flyer opens.
The flyer does not say whether tickets will be sold at the door or how many are available. Questions can go to the Friends at FriendsofRPL@rahwaylibrary.org or to the library at (732) 340-1551. The library is open 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
The hunt offers a chance to see the library after hours while helping pay for its programs. Find more Rahway events, businesses, and local news on Union County Life.
