Robert Hargrove · Union County Life
According to the Berkeley Heights Board of Education's meeting agenda.
Bullying cases and school safety reporting were on the agenda when the Berkeley Heights Board of Education held its regular meeting on Oct. 29.
The agenda for the Berkeley Heights meeting lists an HIB/SSDS presentation by Dr. Ashley Janosko as part of the superintendent's report. In the district's resolutions, HIB stands for harassment, intimidation and bullying.
The same report also listed an update from student representatives Howard Acheson and Eliza Thomas, recognition of the Governor Livingston High School girls field hockey team and a presentation on NJSLA scores.
Under the education section, the board was scheduled to vote on the superintendent's recommendations for three HIB cases. The agenda identifies them only by case number: 312076_GLH, 312430_GLH and 312000_AB.
A second resolution asked the board to approve a New Jersey Department of Education review in which schools assess themselves to set their grades under the state's Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights Act. The review covers July 1, 2025, through June 30, 2026.
The review lists six schools: Mary Kay McMillin Early Childhood Center, William Woodruff School, Mountain Park School, Thomas P. Hughes School, Columbia Middle School and Governor Livingston High School. Both resolutions came to the board on the superintendent's recommendation.
The agenda does not say how the board voted. It also does not give the case outcomes, the district's total number of investigations or any SSDS figures from the presentation. Residents with questions can call the Berkeley Heights School District at 908-464-1718.
