Cranford Fire Department Adds New Pierce Rescue Truck to Fleet
Robert Hargrove · Union County Life
According to the Cranford Fire Department's announcement.
A new rescue truck has joined the township fire department's fleet. It replaces a rescue apparatus that dates back to 1981.
The Cranford Fire Department has introduced its new Pierce Enforcer HDR Rescue Truck. The department said the truck brings updated technology and capabilities to its crews.
"We value and respect our public safety personnel and work hard to provide them with the support and equipment necessary to keep Cranford residents safe," said Mayor Kathleen Miller Prunty.
The truck runs on a PACCAR MX13 EPA compliant engine. It has a 25.5 foot rescue body that crews can walk into, plus a transverse compartment that adds storage and makes equipment easier to reach.
The truck also carries an onboard breathing air compressor. It can refill self contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) cylinders.
"This new Rescue Truck strengthens our emergency response capabilities and reflects our ongoing commitment to public safety," said Lavona Patterson, the township's Business Administrator and Chief Financial Officer.
"Providing our firefighters with reliable, modern equipment is essential to keeping both our personnel and our residents safe," said Fire Chief Dan Czeh. He said the truck gives members "enhanced tools and resources to perform their jobs effectively." He also thanked Mayor Prunty and the Township Committee for their support.
The announcement does not say what the truck cost, how it was paid for, when it goes into service, or what will happen to the 1981 truck. Residents with questions can call Cranford Township at 908-709-7200.
The department said the new apparatus gives it more tools and capabilities to support firefighters as they serve and protect the community.
