Cranford Leaf Pickup Returns to Zones 2 and 3 for Second Round
Robert Hargrove · Union County Life
According to the Township of Cranford's announcement.
Leaf crews are heading back to the northeast and southwest parts of town.
The second leaf pickup for Zones 2 and 3 in Cranford starts Monday, Nov. 2. The Department of Public Works says this is the second pickup for those two zones.
The work follows a new process from Public Works. Crews collect leaves in Zones 1 and 4 first, then move to Zones 2 and 3. They repeat that cycle for at least three pickups, so every zone in town gets at least three visits.
Zone 2 is the northeast section of town. It includes all of Riverside Drive and the streets east of Springfield Avenue up to the Roselle Park and Kenilworth line. Zone 3 is the southwest section, covering streets west of Walnut Avenue from South Avenue West to the Clark and Garwood line.
Before crews reach your zone, rake leaves to the gutter line. Leave space between the curb and the street so stormwater can flow. Keep twigs, branches, pumpkins, grass, mums and other debris out of your piles. The township says those items can hurt workers and damage the equipment.
If you bag your leaves, use only biodegradable paper bags, not plastic. Keep bagged leaves on your property until the next pickup, or take them to the Conservation Center during its hours. Leaves can be dropped off there for free without a permit. If you can, do not park in the street while crews are in your zone, and never park on a leaf pile.
The township does not pick up leaves on county roads. In town, those are Springfield Avenue, Centennial Avenue, Walnut Avenue, Raritan Road, Kenilworth Boulevard, and South Avenue East and West. Residents on those roads can find the county's schedule at ucnj.org or by calling 908-789-3660.
The announcement does not say how long the Zones 2 and 3 pass will take or which streets come first. The township posts updates on its Facebook and Instagram pages and its website each time crews finish a cycle. Questions can go to Cranford Township at 908-709-7200, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
A final sweep of the whole town begins Dec. 14, with crews rotating through all four zones until every pile is picked up. Do not rake leaves to the curb after Dec. 13.
