A free holiday meal and a turkey to take home are waiting for families in Elizabeth before Thanksgiving. The city will hold its 23rd Annual Citywide Pre-Thanksgiving Open Arms Feeding Celebration on Tuesday, Nov. 10, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Stephen Sampson Senior Center, 800 Anna St.

Mayor J. Christian Bollwage, Councilwoman at Large Patricia Perkins-Auguste and the Elizabeth City Council are presenting the event, according to the city's flyer.

Guests will be served complimentary food and refreshments. Each family can receive one free turkey while supplies last.

The celebration also offers useful information. Attendees can learn about employment opportunities, small business programs and services, and healthy eating and nutrition.

The city asks guests to RSVP on or before Friday, Nov. 6, by calling the City Clerk's Office at 908-820-4130. The city's event calendar lists the same number for registration and more information.

The city's materials do not say whether guests who miss the RSVP deadline can still attend, how many turkeys will be available, or where to park. Residents with questions can call the City Clerk's Office at 908-820-4130 or the city's main line at 908-820-4000.

This year marks the 23rd time the city has opened its doors for the gathering ahead of Thanksgiving.
