Scotch Plains Revaluation Impact Letters Expected by Mid November

Robert Hargrove · Union County Life

According to the Township of Scotch Plains.

Scotch Plains property owners should keep an eye on their mail. Letters showing new property assessments and estimated taxes are expected in the coming weeks.

The townwide property tax revaluation in Scotch Plains is close to its next step. Interior property inspections are in their final stages. Once they are done, owners will get impact letters listing their updated assessment and estimated property taxes.

The work is being done by Professional Property Appraisers, Inc., a third party vendor handling the revaluation for the township. The vendor shared the update through a township news post.

The vendor aims to mail the impact letters by mid November. That is a goal, not a firm date. Each letter will include a phone number owners can call with questions or concerns about their new assessment.

Owners who think their new assessed value does not match their property's value can raise it through an informal appeal process. The letter will explain how to reach the right office. The vendor urges owners to read their letters carefully.

The update does not say which tax year the new assessments take effect, how many properties are included, or whether taxes will go up or down overall. It also lists no appeal deadline and no contact person. Owners should use the phone number and instructions in their letter. More updates are promised as the process moves forward.
